The top step is the hardest to climb.

I had this dream last night, in it I was with one of my oldest friends, and we visited a dvd store and a bookshop. Both were located at the top of stairs.
Sounds normal so far, yea, until I got to the top of the stairs. My friend easily climbed them, but me, I had trouble.
I would get to the top step and it was almost like I was being pushed back, I was holding on to the railing, pulling on it to pull me over that top step. I made it both times, with a struggle.
So what could it mean?
I think in my waking life it's a metaphor for life, or some sort of quest I will have to fulfill, the last step is always the hardest, but it's worth it once you get to the top. Or, I have a long, hard way to climb to my personal glory, but I'll make it, if I fight for it and work hard enough.

Let's see what dream dictionary has to say on the subject...
If the dreamer is climbing the stairs then he is "on his way to the top." If the staircase is bright and cheery, the climb to the top will be easy and pleasant. But if the staircase is dark and frightening, the dreamer may have to face some unpleasant situations before he gets to where he wants to be.

Well my staircase was neither lovely or dark, it was rather plain, just a staircase.
